For a quick and easy fix for your blocked drains, try pouring a pot of boiling water into the drain. In many cases, this is enough to loosen or dissolve the blockage without having to resort to more drastic measures. Only use this method on metal or ceramic pipes, as the heat can loosen joints on PVC pipes. For PVC pipes, use hot, not boiling, tap water instead. This method can be effective on grease or food build-up, but it is unlikely to work for solid blockages.

With over 15 years of experience in blocked toilets and drains, no one in my team have managed to develop x-ray vision which allows us to see in drains. From a customer prospective; having a recording of your inspection will give you a piece of mind knowing the issue is definitely cleared. Having a camera inspection will also remove the need for unneeded and costly dig ups.

The best way to avoid a blocked kitchen sink is by not washing fat or cooking oil down your kitchen sink. Over time the grease builds up and sticks to your drain and no amount of water will wash it away.

If you do happen to be so unfortunate and now dealing with a clogged toilet here are two tips:

1 – Use a plunger – save your money and stay away from the cheap general plunger, we recommend the Rothenberger Ropumo Super Plus.

2 – Boiling water is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Boil a kettle full of water and pour it slowly down the drain and repeat a few time. This will work if it is a basic paper blockage and nothing more serious.

The best way to prevent a blocked / clogged toilet is knowing what causes the blockages. There are three things you want to definitely avoid flushing down the toilet

1 – Wipes
2- Cat litter
3 – Female hygienic products

If you notice unpleasant / bad smells coming from your toilet or bathroom, it could be due to a partial or full blockage. Another reason could be due to dry traps. If you haven’t used the toilet for a few days, flush the toilet a few times and run all the sinks in the house for 30 – 60 seconds. If this does not fix the issue feel free to get in touch with the team at Drainage Group.

We get a lot of calls asking ‘why is my toilet water level low?’. There could be a few reasons for this, one could be an indication of a clogged or blocked toilet. If you are having this issue often, it could be a venting issues and best to get a plumber out to investigate. The issue could also be due to a crack in the toilet and in that case you will most likely need to replace the bowl to resolve the problem
